• Typography collaboration with Dust

What Sheffield Cycling fans print on the Pedal Powered Printing Press has always been equally as important as building it. From the start I wanted to use type from
Sheffield's Stephenson Blake foundry
- it seems only right.
Looking into this with friends very quickly led me to letterpress enthusiast Ashleigh Armitage and Sheffield based typography experts
. After a few tweets and a visit to their studio today, I'm pleased to say we'll be working on the design together.
I enjoyed rummaging through Dust's collection of Stephenson Blake type and their strong ties with Sheffield Hallam University should mean we can raid their collection if needed. I can't think of a better group of people to be working with - really looking forward to setting the type.

I've been working with Luke and Dan at
to come up with the best design for the press. We didn't really set ourselves a brief and we've not really set any limits on the creative process. The only rule we have set is that the press should be made of as many bike parts as possible. This is not proving to be a problem as yet, bikes are fantastically versatile.
So far we've got ideas that use freewheels, chain rings, chains, bottom brackets and cranks. Plus some more outlandish ideas that inc...
